Keeping Scouts Safe – Policies and Risk Assessments 💚

Safe adventures, happy memories

Every adventure, from a campfire singalong to a hike through the woods, is made safe by the care and planning of our trained volunteers. Behind the laughter and friendship, we work hard to make sure every young person feels secure, supported and ready to explore.

This page explains our key safety policies and how we carry out risk assessments for camps and activities. Parents, carers and volunteers are always welcome to read, download or request copies at any time.

🌟 Our Policies

Our policies are the promises we keep to make Scouting safe, inclusive and respectful. They protect young people and help the adventure shine:

From first aid kits to equipment checks, our leaders follow health and safety guidance so that activities are run responsibly.

  • Anti-Bullying and Behaviour Policy
Scouts is built on kindness, teamwork and respect. Our behaviour policy ensures everyone feels welcome and valued.

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy
Scouting is open to all. We celebrate differences and make sure no one is excluded from the fun.

  • Privacy and Data Protection
Personal details such as registration forms, emails and photos are kept safe and used responsibly.

  • Volunteer Code of Conduct – The Yellow Card
Our leaders and helpers follow a clear code of conduct, setting a positive example and supporting young people at all times.

🛡️ Risk Assessments for Scout Activities

Every Scout activity, whether it’s a weekly hall meeting or a weekend under canvas, is risk assessed before it takes place. This ensures hazards are spotted, safety measures are in place and adventures can be enjoyed with confidence.

All risk assessments follow The Scout Association’s guidance. Copies are always available on request.

Examples include:

  • Weekly Scout meetings in the hall

  • Overnight Scout camps and sleepovers

  • Outdoor activities such as hikes, fire-lighting, cooking and water activities

✨ Safety and Fun, Hand in Hand

Scouting is all about building confidence, making friends and trying new things. Our policies and risk assessments make that possible. They protect the fun as much as the young people, ensuring memories can be made in a safe and supportive space.
